病院のこと
2021年、母は直腸がん（ステージ3A）の手術を受けた。
それ以来、定期的に検査を続けている。
先日、PET検査を受け、2月6日にその結果を聞きに行くことになった。
カナダに住んでいる私は、手術のときでさえ帰国することができなかった。
今回、初めて一緒に病院へ行くことができた。
主治医の石松先生によると、
手術した場所の近くに、2センチほどのがんらしきものが見つかったという。
はっきりと確認できるため、切除したほうがよいとのことだった。
母はすぐに手術に同意した。
手術は2週間後になるらしい。
前回の手術部位のすぐ近くで見つかったことから、転移と考えられ、
ステージ4と説明された。
――2週間後。
帰国を延期したほうがいいのだろうか。
AIのこと
最近、テレビでAIの話題をよく目にするようになった。
去年は、ここまで頻繁ではなかった気がする。
ある番組で、子どもがAIを使うことについて議論していた。
その中で、ある人がこんなことを言っていた。
「AIを使うというのは、オックスフォードの家庭教師を無料で雇っているようなものだ」
私も仕事でAIを使っているが、これはとても的確な表現だと思った。
Hospital
In 2021, my mother underwent surgery for rectal cancer (Stage 3A).
Since then, she has been having regular follow-up examinations.
Recently, she had a PET scan, and we went to hear the results on February 6.
Living in Canada, I wasn’t able to return to Japan even at the time of her surgery.
This was the first time I could go to the hospital with her.
According to her doctor, Dr. Ishimatsu,
a tumour-like mass about 2 cm in size was found near the previous surgical site.
Since it appeared clearly on the scan, he suggested that it would be better to remove it.
My mother agreed to the surgery immediately.
It is scheduled to take place in two weeks.
Because it was found so close to the original site, it is considered a metastasis.
The doctor explained that this means Stage 4.
— Two weeks from now.
I wonder if I should postpone my return.
AI
Recently, I’ve been hearing a lot about AI on TV.
It wasn’t something I noticed this much last year.
In one program, there was a discussion about children using AI.
One of the guests said something that stayed with me:
“Using AI is like having a private tutor from Oxford for free.”
I also use AI for work as well, and I strongly agree with that.
