夫と一緒に旅行するときは、彼の食欲をしっかり満たすものを食べるのが“必須”になります。ということで、この日は Blacklock でサンデーローストを食べることにしました。
サンデーローストは、イギリスで日曜日の午後に家族や友人と一緒に食べる伝統的な食事です。数世紀前から続く習慣で、ローストした肉に、ローストポテト、野菜、ヨークシャープディング、グレービーなどが添えられることが多いです。
Blacklock はロンドンでもとても有名なステーキ＆チョップのレストランで、「ロンドンで一番おいしいサンデーローストのひとつ」と言う人も多いそうです。夫はビーフ、私はラムを注文しました。あとで二人で「ラムの方がおいしかったね」と意見が一致しました。
ランチのあと、Gielgud Theatre でミュージカル Oliver! を観ました。劇場はとても可愛らしくて、席に座っていると、大きなボウルの縁に座って舞台を見下ろしているような感じでした。
公演は午後2時30分からのマチネーでした。ショーはとてもよくできていて、特に悪役の Bill を演じた俳優が印象的でした。あまりにも悪役が上手で、最後に出演者が挨拶に出てきたとき、観客からブーイングが起きていました。
この日は雨でした。ロンドンでの最後の日だったので、地下鉄に乗って空港方面へ戻りました。翌朝シンガポール行きの早朝便だったため、また Holiday Inn Express Heathrow に泊まりました。

When I travel with my husband, it is almost a must to eat something that really satisfies his appetite. This time, that meant going for a Sunday roast at Blacklock.
A Sunday roast is a traditional British meal that people usually eat on Sunday afternoon, often with family or friends. It dates back several centuries in the UK and typically includes roasted meat, potatoes, vegetables, Yorkshire pudding, and gravy.
Blacklock is a very well-known steak and chop restaurant in London, and many people say it serves one of the best Sunday roasts in the city. My husband ordered beef and I ordered lamb. Later, we both agreed that the lamb was actually better!
After lunch, we went to see Oliver! at the Gielgud Theatre. The theatre itself was very cute and cozy. Sitting there felt almost like being on the wall of a huge bowl, looking down toward the stage.
It was a matinee performance starting at 2:30 PM. The show was wonderfully done. The actor who played the villain, Bill, was especially impressive — so convincing that he even got booed by the audience during the curtain call!
It was raining that day. Since it was our last day in London, we took the subway back to the airport area. Because we had an early morning flight to Singapore, we stayed again at the Holiday Inn Express Heathrow.
