今日のお宝

今日のお宝は、サンゴのように見える大きな赤いビーズがあしらわれたワイヤーブレスレット。
2025年12月30日（月）にMission Thrift Storeで購入 — $4.99。

これを選んだ理由

ごちゃごちゃとした「その他大勢」に分類されたアクセサリー類をスキャンしていると、
ふと、このぱっと目に入る赤い色に足が止まりました。

手に取ってよく観察してみると、
どこかナチュラルな雰囲気があります。
表面にはブツブツがあったり、
ぼんやりと年輪のような輪が見えたりして、
「サンゴ？」と。

プラスチックにしては、ずいぶんよくできている。
ワイヤー部分は好みとは少し違いますが、
家に持ち帰って、もう少しじっくり観察してみたいと思いました。

ちょっとした掘り出し物

家に持ち帰ってあらためて見てみると、素材が気になってきました。表面は均一ではなく、小さな孔や、色のわずかな濃淡が見られます。頬に当てると、プラスチックのようにすぐに温まらず、ひんやりとした感触が続きました。また、模様は年輪というよりも、布に液体が落ちたときにじむような、やわらかい広がり方をしています。

天然のサンゴなのか、再構成サンゴなのか、あるいはサンゴを思わせる別の素材なのか、いくつかの可能性を考えました。画像認識では「赤サンゴ」と表示されましたが、内部の様子はもう少し複雑に感じられます。はっきりとした結論を出すよりも、立ち止まって観察する時間そのものを楽しみました。素材が何であれ、このブレスレットには若々しいスピリットが感じられ、それが「いいな」と思えた理由です。

Why I picked It Up

While scanning through a jumble of accessories classified as “miscellaneous,”
a vivid red color suddenly caught my eye.

When I picked it up and took a closer look,
it had a strangely natural feel to it.
The surface showed small bumps,
along with faint, blurred ring-like patterns—
almost like growth rings—which made me wonder, “Could this be coral?”

It seemed too well made to be plastic.
Although the wire setting wasn’t quite to my taste,
I decided to take it home and examine it more carefully.

A Nice Little Find

Looking more closely at home, I became curious about the material. The surface wasn’t uniform, with tiny pores and gentle shifts in colour. When I touched the stone to my cheek, it stayed cold longer than plastic would. I also noticed soft, spreading patterns — less like growth rings, and more like the way colour stains into fabric.

I considered several possibilities, from natural coral to reconstituted coral or a coral-inspired composite. Image recognition suggested red coral, but the internal structure felt more nuanced. Rather than trying to decide definitively, I enjoyed slowing down and observing. Whatever the material, the bracelet has a youthful spirit — which is what made it a nice little find.
